Onity and Comcast’s MachineQ Bring IoT Smart Locks to the Self-Storage Industry

SALEM, ORE. -

The Passport Locking Solution integrates MachineQ’s LoRaWAN connectivity for enhanced access and management of self-storage unit smart locks

Onity, a Carrier company, and MachineQ, a Comcast company, have collaborated to introduce a cloud-based smart lock solution for use in self-storage facilities. Integrating MachineQ’s IoT connectivity with Onity’s recently launched Passport™ Locking Solution improves facility management for self-storage operators, helps increase security and streamlines unit access for tenants. Onity is part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), the global leader in healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold chain solutions.

The Passport smart lock is accessed seamlessly from a smart phone, using Onity’s DirectKey™ mobile app, while self-storage operators manage credentials and monitor unit status from Onity’s PassPortal™ cloud-based management system.

Self-storage facility managers and tenants can access Passport lock-fitted units via Bluetooth technology within close range of the unit. Additionally, facility operators can leverage the connectivity enabled by MachineQ’s low-power, Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN®) platform to:

  • Lock, unlock and monitor status of units remotely
  • Gain greater visibility into self-storage facility operations
  • Receive real-time and periodic event reporting such as lock open/close status and other sensor events
  • Increase ability to quickly identify and respond to issues

MachineQ’s IoT platform is scalable to other self-storage facility device types, offering the potential for facility operators to have visibility into additional important unit monitoring parameters such as leak detection, temperature sensing and more. This can further enhance the security and maintenance of self-storage facilities, providing operators with a comprehensive solution for managing their facilities using the same network foundation that helps lower the total cost of ownership.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with MachineQ to provide a comprehensive solution for self-storage facility operators," said Fayyad Sbaihat, President, Onity. “Our smart locks, combined with MachineQ’s IoT connectivity platform, will provide operators with visibility into their units, enhancing the tenant experience, building customer loyalty and improving overall facility management.”

“MachineQ is excited to join forces with Onity on this innovative self-storage solution,” said Bob Schwartz, Director of Solutions Consulting, MachineQ. “Our technology will provide a reliable, cost-effective solution for connecting Onity’s Passport smart locks and additional solutions, enabling real-time reporting and enhanced management of self-storage facilities.”
